    Reza was invited to give a presentation in the Colorado Protein Stability Conference. In his presentation, Reza discussed how the quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) can effectively predict protein self-association and the stability of monoclonal antibodies. These advancements promise to improve the manufacturability and formulation of therapeutic mAbs.

    We are excited to share that Hesham recently gave a podium presentation at the Globalisation of Pharmaceutics Education Network (GPEN) meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark. Hesham's presentation "Exploring Formulations of Biosimilar Products in the US Market," aimed to investigate whether slight differences in the chemical or physical characteristics of biosimilars necessitate different formulations to ensure their stability and effectiveness.

    New instrument

    QCM-D device, the qCell T Q2, was set up in the lab. This state-of-the-art instrument is a dual-channel quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation/damping monitoring capabilities. The qCell T Q2 will significantly enhance our research capabilities, allowing us to expand our projects on protein adsorption and protein-material interactions.

    I am very pleased to announce that my application for NIH R21 grant has been awarded. The grant will help us develop a new approach for assessing self-association of monoclonal antibodies (and other proteins). Such tools would eventually enhance efficiency in development of much needed protein therapeutics which, in turn, leads to addressing more of the unmet medical needs. Thanks to Yusra Rahman and Siddhanth Hejmady for generating the great preliminary data for this application.

    m-VROC viscometer was set up in the lab. Designed to handle most challenging applications, the system allows us to measure the viscosity of various formulations more accurately and using only tens of microliters of sample.

    Pharmacy students Delayne Glassgow, McCaffery Townsend, Jacob Roher and Minh Pham successfully completed their discovery project in the lab. They studied the effects of using closed system transfer devices (CSTDs) on quality and dosing aspects of a monoclonal antibody therapeutic. Great job FlowCam team!

    We are pleased to announce receiving of the competitive CATALYST AWARD from Dr. Ralph and Marian Falk Medical Research Trust. The project supported by this grant will address development and validation of a piezoelectric immunosensor to rapidly detect a novel biomarker of morbidity and mortality risk in sepsis patients, an area of great medical need. We look forward to working with Professor Ethan Anderson and his team from the University of Iowa on this exciting project.

    New instrument

    FlowCam is set up in the lab. We use this flow imaging microscopy technique to characterize protein aggregates and other micrometer sized particles. Alongside HP-SEC it will enhance our capacities in studying stability of protein formulations among other things.

  • DLS Plate Reader

    New instrument

    September 2021

    We are happy to announce that a DynaPro Plate Reader was set up in the lab. We use dynamic light scattering for characterization of proteins, protein aggregates and particles in the nanometer size range. The state-of-the-art DLS plate reader will allow us to increase the output of the measurements and to have reliable diffusion interaction parameter measurements among others.

    Our High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) system from Agilent is set up. This state-state-of-the-art instrument with DAD and FLD detectors is set to offer enhanced precision, efficiency, and reliability in our size exclusion chromatography experiemnts.
